$12 million Texas lottery prize unclaimed

Somebody lost millions of dollars Monday evening that they probably never knew was theirs.

Six months after beating astronomical odds to win the Lotto Texas jackpot, the simultaneously lucky and cursed person failed to materialize before a deadline to redeem the winning ticket - officially worth $12 million, and $7.5 million in immediate cash.

It was biggest unclaimed Lotto prize since 2001 and the third largest since the game started in 1992, according to the Texas Lottery Commission.

More than $837 million in unclaimed lottery prizes have reverted to the state budget since 1995…

Random Pickings. Winning Lottery Numbers, How?

http://www.yoolotto.com/
Would you commit to playing the same complete set of lottery numbers for the lifetime of your lottery experience? I have spoken/read a few blogs from lottery experts, and there seems to be a consensus to not choose the QuickPick (QP) option however, nothing (that I came across) about committing to the same numbers every play, is mentioned. Now, whether or not these lottery experts are self-appointed or industry-acknowledged, I do know that seven time lottery winner Richard Lustig suggests the same strategy, about not choosing QP for a better chance at winning the lottery. Could you imagine, if you play the same lottery numbers consistently for a fair amount of time, suddenly forget or decide to not play a drawing, and those numbers get recognized as the lottery jackpot numbers for Powerball or Megamillions? How crazy, and incredibly stressful would that be? Ha. Stressful to say the least, am I right? I wonder how many people out there would fit under this umbrella of their normally played lottery numbers coincidently being chosen for a jackpot that they did not play. What would you do? Even the process leading up to the number announcements, as the first couple numbers are called you are thinking to yourself, “No. Way.” Then the third to fifth number, “This is not happening.” Then as the Powerball or Megaball accurately aligns with your go-to number, would you feel an excitement brought down quickly with the realization that you didn’t play this drawing? Let’s be honest, how many of you would try to submit an old ticket with your previously played tickets, haha! I’m sure at this point, a sense of logical thinking is out, at least for a moment. So what is the lesson? Increase your chances and save your sanity by always playing your numbers and a set of randomly chosen numbers as well J Besides, what is another $2 - $4 for a chance at a large payout ;)

Daydreaming Lottery

So I can’t help but notice that some of the lotteries frequent changes in the way winnings are calculated. Now, some would say, new changes could result in more incremental jackpot winnings meaning, more single digit dollar winnings but, with a less likely chance at the mega-jackpot. You know, the mu-la (spelling?). So my question to you, the fans, the lottery players, would you rather have a better odds at winning the grand-jackpot, the jackpot odds not so much favoring your chance of winning but giving you more smaller winnings as you play, or do you just not care. Are most of the lottery players out there, giving up that minimal cost of one dollar or two, to have those few days to dream of how winning the jackpot might change your life? Now I can’t help but think about the movie, The Matrix in this situation. I mean come on, right? The whole “Ignorance is bliss” philosophy. I know the two are not directly comparable, for instance we all are well aware of the unfavorable odds involved of winning, but we all spend those couple dollars anyway. I suppose it comes down to this idea, for myself and from what I’ve seen speaking to hundreds of lottery players. A few dollars here and there, is worth the return of playing the lottery even IF the return on investment was only the dream. We live in a world filled with hardship that comes without any work, so, anything that would lead to better thoughts, especially that which is priced at $1 or $2, seems to be a pretty decent pass time/source of entertainment. Till next time, the voice of lottery, spoken without filters, spoken from the players. Cheers~

Dallas-based app YooLotto ensures you don't miss out on millions

Eric Yoo and Elmer Cha hope their new lottery-management app, YooLotto, ensures you don’t let millions of dollars waste away in your glove box or kitchen junk drawer. The app keeps track of any Powerball and Megamillions tickets you purchase.
New YooLotto apps ensures you don't miss your big payday.
YooLotto automatically updates for winning numbers, with prizes ranging from $10 to grand prizes, and lets you know if you’ve got some money coming your way.
“There was $53 million in unclaimed prizes in Texas last year,” Yoo says. “In the U.S., it totaled $800 million. We wanted to create an app that simplifies the lottery process and brings the money back to users along with great deals.”

Cha says the idea for the app came when Yoo was in Destin, Florida, in December 2011, when he saw a billboard for Powerball and realized that the lottery game had yet to be digitized. From there it was about getting the technology in order for an app to read lottery numbers from a picture of a ticket.
In case you’re wondering if you’ve got any money sitting around, YooLotto also accepts old tickets up to 180 days after purchase.
“It’s a very specific type of tech,” spokesperson Kristin Kelly says. “It required a specialized team to implement the OCR [optical character recognition] program to be able to pick up the numbers.”
YooLotto is partnering with 7-Eleven as it rolls out in Texas. Lotto winners can find the nearest 7-Eleven to cash in tickets, and all users get special deals and coupons with the app.
“Ninety-four percent of ticket buyers are non-winners,” Yoo says. “We wanted to make all of our users are winners by saying, ‘Hey, sorry you didn’t win, but here’s a coupon for a free Slurpee.’”
Kelly says the partnership benefits consumers while also ensuring 7-Eleven gets people coming into their locations, as opposed to other convenience stores.
“Not a single convenience store has a marketing strategy to bring ticket buyers back to their stores,” Yoo says. “This sponsorship means that lottery customers get convenience, and the stores increase sales.”
Yoo and Cha got YooLotto off the ground thanks to their involvement in the Dallas startup incubator Tech Wildcatters in spring 2012. It was there that they met program director Stewart Youngblood, who helped them polish their pitch before going to 7-Eleven.
The pair has plans to roll out a version 2.0 of the app this summer that will support all of Texas’ lottery games. They hope to begin rolling out support for other states by fall 2013
Right now, Yoo and Cha are working on adapting the technology to accommodate each state’s unique tickets while also raising more seed funding. They hope to be in New York, California, Florida and Massachusetts.
“I just say, ‘Stop leaving money on the table,’” Kelly says. “That to me was the biggest ‘aha!’ moment when I met Eric and Elmer. Whether it’s $10 or $10,000, people are forgetting about it, and that just seems crazy to me.”

7-Eleven Partners With YooLotto for Exclusive Lottery App

Launching first in Texas, application notifies players whether they have won, delivers coupons

DALLAS -- 7-Eleven Inc. said that it has forged an exclusive partnership with E Squared Technologies Inc., a Dallas-area startup company that has developed YooLotto, which it is said is the "first and only" application for Texas Powerball and Megamillions lottery players that delivers real-time, personalized lottery results.

This free app allows players to manage their tickets and notifies them within minutes of the drawing about whether they have won. As a bonus, players receive product coupons and information on other deals at 7-Eleven's franchised and company-operated stores in Texas.
YooLotto has announced that version one of its lottery-management app is now available for download for both iOS and Android devices.
After downloading the YooLotto app to their device, players purchase their lottery tickets and take a photograph of the tickets with their smart phones.
YooLotto stores individual ticket information and sends personalized, real-time drawing results directly to the user's smart phone. It then leverages location-awareness technology to guide these players to the closest YooLotto-sponsored retailer where they can collect their winnings and claim great offers from their favorite brands. Also, YooLotto's intelligent coupon platform provides consumer brands with a new way to micro-target their customers through intuitive coupons, promotions and other special offers.
YooLotto's patent-pending technology uses GPS technology to direct players to the closest participating retailer to collect their winnings or try their luck again.
Through mobile coupons and promotions, every notification received creates awareness of deals offered in convenience stores.
Currently supporting Power ball and Mega millions games in Texas, YooLotto is planning a national roll out for the multistage games later this year.
"We wanted to use technology to make the process of keeping track of lottery tickets easy and more convenient, while at the same time reducing the amount of players leaving money on the table," Yoo said. "We also felt it was important to reward people for frequent play--for believing in the possibility of that life-changing jackpot. That's why we're partnering with 7-Eleven and other brands sold inside 7-Eleven to give lottery players great deals on their favorite products so that every ticket is a winner."
Jesus Delgado-Jenkins, 7-Eleven's executive vice president for merchandising, marketing, logistics and innovation, said that working with YooLotto is an ideal way for the company to strengthen its relationship with lottery players and to help grow its share of the $4.1 billion lottery pie in Texas.
"This partnership not only allows us to reward lottery players for redeeming their Texas Powerball and Megamillions tickets at 7-Eleven stores with exclusive deals and coupons, but it also establishes 7-Eleven as the lottery destination in Texas," he said.
YooLotto is the first application from co-founders Eric Yoo and Elmer Cha's E Squared Technologies; it was among 10 products included in the 2012 class at Tech Wildcatters, a Dallas-based, business-to-business start up accelerator.
"We have literally hundreds of applicants each year for our 12-week mentor ship program," said Stewart Young blood, program director at Tech Wildcatters. "And while a great idea and solid business plan are clearly prerequisites, ultimately people invest in people. That's what makes YooLotto so special. Eric and Elmer have the right dynamic internally, with investors, with our staff and with mentors. We chose them because we believe in their concept and in them. I'm confident YooLotto will be a huge success."
Dallas-based 7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses more than 10,000 7-Eleven stores in North America. It has approximately 50,000 stores in 16 countries. During 2011, 7-Eleven stores generated total worldwide sales of nearly $76.6 billion.

7-Eleven Partners Exclusively With YooLotto

DALLAS - 7-Eleven Inc. has signed an exclusive partnership with YooLotto to use its free lottery-management application (app).

7-Eleven Partners Exclusively With YooLotto
According to 7-Eleven, YooLotto is the first and only app that stores and tracks individual lottery ticket information, notifying players of their personal lottery results within minutes after drawings. After downloading the app on iOS and Android devices, consumers can then proceed to purchase lottery tickets and subsequently take a picture of those tickets utilizing their smartphones.

YooLotto uses GPS technology to direct them to the closest participating retailer to collect their winnings or try again. Under YooLotto's agreement with 7-Eleven for the app's launch, customers who redeem their lottery winnings in 7-Eleven franchised and company-operated locations are eligible to receive coupons and other deals.

"We wanted to use technology to make the process of keeping track of lottery tickets easy and more convenient, while at the same time reducing the amount of players leaving money on the table,” said YooLotto co-founder Eric Yoo. “We also felt it was important to reward people for frequent play; for believing in the possibility of that life-changing jackpot. That’s why we’re partnering with 7-Eleven and other brands sold inside 7-Eleven to give lottery players great deals on their favorite products so that every ticket is a winner."

Statistics show that hundreds of millions of dollars of lottery winnings are unclaimed in the United States every year. In 2012, a reported $53 million went unclaimed in the Lone Star State alone, a problem the mobile application is attempting to solve.

YooLotto currently supports Powerball and Megamillions games in Texas. The app is planning a national rollout for multi-state games later this year.

"This partnership not only allows us to reward lottery players for redeeming their Texas Powerball and Megamillions tickets at 7-Eleven stores with exclusive deals and coupons, but it also establishes 7-Eleven as the lottery destination in Texas," noted Jesus Delgado-Jenkins, 7-Eleven’s executive vice president for merchandising, marketing, logistics and innovation.

7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses more than 10,000 North American locations.
